Is Your Content Easily Linkable?

Following a year or two of almost constant Google updates named after one animal or another, it’s becoming pretty clear that Google are keen for us to up the quality of our content. Content is King has always been a staple phrase in the world of SEO, but it’s perhaps never been emboldened, italicised, coloured red and shouted across the screen before! We’re getting the message pretty loud and clear, but of course it’s all well and good creating good content – we still need to make sure it gets shared.

The best content in the world could sit on a little known site for all eternity, only to be read by a handful of people. If you don’t know how to get your content out there, and equally as importantly, if you don’t know how to make your content shareable, it will hardly benefit you at all. Thankfully, there are a few things we can do to make sure that the great content that we are all now determined to produce, gets seen by plenty of people, and gets shared by plenty of people.

Give People a Button or Two

So you’ve produced a great piece on the latest headache for buyers in your market. You know it’s going to help people, but they might not know how to share the piece in their own social media site. The solution? Give them a button. You can run a selection of social buttons on your site, which will mean that anyone clicking on the button will automatically be able to share the content on their social media pages. It sounds simple, because it is. Make sure people can share to their Facebook page, and Tweet what you’re saying through a simple social media button at the top of your content.

A Picture Tells s Thousand Words

Your content may be great, but wouldn’t a little visual aid or two help to hook in someone who can’t really be bothered to read beyond the first line to find out what the content is about? These people exist in abundance, so give them a helping hand by including great visuals, like infographics to draw people in an instant.

Revisit Old Content and Make It New Again

If you think you have published old content that was great, but didn’t get the exposure it deserved, take your new techniques, freshen up the content and hey presto! A brand new piece of content that will be seen and hopefully shared by the masses!

Try Not to Reference Too Many Other Sites and Articles

People are looking for your work, but if you are directing someone to three different articles within your own article, it gets messy. Not to mention the fact that the person considering linking to your article, may just link to the article you keep referring to in your text! Create detailed content that is all yours and you’ll keep all of the link juice to yourself.

Follow these tips, and there’s no doubt that you can improve the number of legitimate backlinks to your site. It’s great SEO, and will help your authorship if you link everything to a well maintained Google + account.
